ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Ithaca’s Common Council has approved a new memorandum of understanding between the city and Cornell.

Before the vote Wednesday night, the Common Council agreed to reduce the terms from 21 years down to 15. Alderperson Cynthia Brock rejected the MOU.

Brock says all costs in the city, including insurance and pensions, are increasing by double digits.

Cornell will voluntarily contribute four million dollars to Ithaca through the year 2038.

After Wednesday night’s vote, Cornell VP of University Relations Joel Malina issued the following statement:

“Cornell greatly appreciates tonight’s vote by the Common Council approving an amended MOU agreement. The amended agreement will now be considered by the Executive Committee of the Cornell Board of Trustees, and I will notify Mayor Lewis once that has occurred.”
