ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Tompkins County Whole Health Department is urging caution ahead of the holiday season.

Health officials say local COVID-19 cases have increased by 47% over the past two weeks, with 59 new cases last week alone. Flu cases continue to rise in the state as well, with an increase of 44% in the past week, and 21 new cases reported in Tompkins County. Whole Health Commissioner Frank Kruppa wants people to be aware ahead of holiday gatherings.

“Please take the following steps to reduce your risk of getting or sharing respiratory illnesses this holiday season: wash your hands well and often, get tested if you are experiencing symptoms or have had a recent exposure, stay home if sick, wear a high-quality mask when needed, and get vaccinated for COVID-19 and the flu if you have not already done so,” said Kruppa.

COVID-19 tests and masks can be picked up at the Whole Health office located at 55 Brown Road in Ithaca.
