AUBURN, NY (607NewsNow) – One person is recovering after a water rescue in Auburn.

On March 26, Auburn Police were called to the Lake Avenue Bridge for a report that a person in crisis had jumped into the Owasco River and was screaming for help.

Officers Edward Pickard and Lucas Dranscak arrived at the scene to find the victim about 15 yards from the shoreline and still calling out for help. After jumping down a 10-foot concrete wall, Officer Pickard entered the water and secured the victim by their torso and guided them back to shore, briefly going underwater during the effort.

Officials say the water temperature on Thursday at the time of the rescue was between 34 and 36 degrees. The victim was transported to Auburn Community Hospital for treatment.

You can watch body camera footage of the rescue in the embedded page or on the Auburn Police Department Facebook.
