OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) – A historic building in Owego is getting a new lease on life.
On July 22, the Tioga County Property Development Corporation (TCPDC) awarded a $662,800 bid for renovations at 247 Main Street in the village, the Morning Times reports.
TCPDC reportedly sought to demolish the building but was unable to obtain approval from New York State due to its historic designation.
According to the Owego Historic Preservation Society, 247 Main was once the home of U.S. Army Officer Henry Martyn Robert, who wrote Robert’s Rules of Order, the widely accepted standard parliamentary procedure for government meetings across the country.
