KIRKWOOD, NY (607NewsNow) – A convicted Broome County sex offender will spend more time behind bars.

On August 25, the Department of Justice announced that Gerard Reilly, Jr., of Kirkwood, had been sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender in New York.

As part of a previous guilty plea, the 59-year-old admitted to notifying authorities in April 2024 that he had relocated to Texas but did not tell them when he moved back in August that year. Reilly was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse in Broome County back in May 2006. He spent five years in state prison. As part of the terms of his release, Reilly was required to register as a sex offender under both federal and state law in any state.

“Individuals who are required by law to register as sex offenders must understand that failing to comply with those requirements has serious consequences,” said Acting U.S. Marshal Christopher Amoia. “The United States Marshals Service will continue to work closely with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to identify, investigate, and apprehend those who disregard the registration obligations.”

Reilly was also sentenced to serve a 5-year term of supervision upon his release from prison.
