ALBANY, NY (607NewsNow) — Immigration is front and center for Gov. Kathy Hochul.

In a series of laws signed Thursday, May 28 as part of the FY2027 state budget, Hochul says the package is designed “to hold ICE accountable, protect the constitutional rights and safety of every New Yorker, and ensure there’s no sanctuary for criminals in our state.”

Among the new laws are banning local, state, and federal officers from wearing face masks, allowing lawsuits against federal authorities for violating constitutional rights, and makes sure immigrant students get a free education.

“States like New York can and must be a guardrail and national leader against ICE overreach, and I’m proud to enact these strong, common-sense protections for New Yorkers,” Hochul said.
