CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – Cortland County’s tourism economy continues to see growth.

Newly released data shows that traveler spending reached $104.8 million last year, representing a 0.6% increase over 2023 and a 34.3% jump over 2021.

“Tourism is not just about welcoming visitors,” said Experience Cortland/Cortland County Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Michelle Enright. “It’s a powerful driver of economic development. Every dollar spent at our restaurant, hotels, attractions, and shops strengthens Cortland County’s economy, creates jobs, and builds opportunities for both residents and visitors.”

The county’s food and beverage industry led the way, accounting for nearly half of the sales tax generation at $50.2 million. Lodging had the next biggest share at $23.6 million, followed by retail sales at $16.4 million.

Tourism generated $39.8 million in labor income last year and supported 1,554 jobs, including direct jobs that made up 6.6% of the county workforce.

“These numbers highlight the value of our tourism partners and the importance of continuing to invest in visitor experiences.

According to Experience Cortland, visitors helped generate $11.6 million in tax revenue in 2024. Without it, the average Cortland County household would need to pay an additional $616 per year to maintain the same level of government services.
