Cortland DPW superintendent to resign June 12

CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — The city of Cortland is looking for a new department head.

Mike Wiese, superintendent of the Department of Public Works, submitted his resignation letter to Mayor Scott Steve and the Common Council on Tuesday, May 29. Wiese was appointed superintendent in July 2024.

“During the transition, Mayor Steve will be working with DPW supervisors to support daily operations of a strong workforce that takes pride in maintaining and improving the city. He will also be meeting with the Board of Public Works which helps to advise the Superintendent on administration and operations,” according to a news release.

Wiese’s resignation will become official on June 12. Efforts to begin recruitment of candidates are expected to begin once the position is posted at the city’s website.

“The Board of Public Works will review and evaluate candidates for appointment by the Mayor and confirmation by the Common Council,” officials stated.
