ELMIRA, NY (607NewsNow) – A Chemung County police officer is facing charges.

On October 15, State Police arrested Shyonna Pacheco of the Elmira Police Department (EPD) after an investigation into misconduct.

The 26-year-old Pine City woman is accused of leaking confidential information to someone over the summer that jeopardized an active investigation. EPD contacted State Police about the information leak on July 22. That complaint led to the execution of two search warrants, where authorities seized electronic devices.

Pacheco is charged with hindering prosecution, a felony, and four misdemeanors: two counts of official misconduct and two counts of obstruction of governmental administration. Troopers say the investigation is ongoing, and the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office is handling the case.

Pacheco was released to appear in Elmira City Court at a later date. Pacheco has been suspended, and EPD is reportedly pursuing termination.
