ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – An Ithaca grocery store is helping a local nonprofit.

On October 22, GreenStar Food Co-Op presented the Sciencenter with a check for $576.48.

The money comes from GreenStar’s Partners/Bags for Change program, where, every calendar quarter, GreenStar commits $1,000 to be divided among three local organizations. Customers who bring their own reusable bags are given tokens that they use to help decide how much each organization gets. Collection bins representing each Partner group are set up at registers, and customers drop their tokens in their preferred partner’s bin.

The collected number of tokens is used to determine the percentage each nonprofit receives.
