ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A water main break means lengthy road work in Ithaca.

On October 18, a main break occurred near the South Aurora and Prospect Street intersection, and city officials say it caused extensive damage.

It will require the continued closure of the key roadway and five to six weeks of pavement repair. South Aurora will remain closed between Prospect Street and The Commons for the duration of the work, which is expected to be finished by December 1.

Northbound traffic on South Aurora heading towards downtown should take a left onto Prospect/Clinton Street, right onto South Cayuga, right onto West Green, stay straight to East Seneca, then right onto North Aurora.

Southbound traffic heading toward Danby from the downtown area should take Seneca Street to South Cayuga, make a left onto Clinton, and a right onto Danby Road/Route 96B.

All detours will be posted.

Hudson Street will remain open between Giles Street and South Aurora Street for local traffic.
