LOCKE, NY (607NewsNow) – A Cayuga County man is recovering after a standoff with law enforcement.

On November 23, deputies were called to a residence in the Town of Locke for a welfare check at 9:30 p.m. after a report that someone in the home was potentially in danger.

When they arrived, they found 62-year-old Michael Yaw, who was there in violation of a protective order. Yaw allegedly met deputies with a long gun before barricading himself inside. Additionally, it was discovered that a third party was inside and could not leave.

After hours of negotiation, Yaw surrendered around 3:20 a.m. on November 24 after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the shoulder. Yaw, who is under the custody of the sheriff’s office and is pending arrest and arraignment, was taken to Upstate University Hospital with “what appears to be a non-life-threatening injury.”

The standoff follows two recent arrests of Yaw, also for allegedly violating an order of protection.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with relevant information is asked to call (315) 253-1222 or submit a tip online. You may remain anonymous.
