ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Tompkins County lawmakers will consider helping older residents with property taxes.

A public hearing will occur at the beginning of the full meeting of the Legislature on Tuesday, Feb. 17 on a proposed law to increase the maximum property tax exemption for low-income seniors.

Legislator Christy Bianconi first introduced the legislation earlier this month to authorize a public hearing. For her family, the issue hits home.

You can watch Bianconi’s full comments at the Legislature meeting earlier this month here.

The proposal is on the agenda, so lawmakers will debate and potentially vote on it Tuesday night. The Legislature meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Legislative Chambers inside the Daniel D. Tompkins building in Ithaca.
